My sister in law sprayed one of those thngs with bug spray when she lived in North Carolina- when she did it popped out a whole bunch of baby brown recluse spiders.
Apparantly it's a survival of the species tactic.
If your spider did that you may still have some in the house. getting bigger and stronger by the day. Waiting to avenge mother's death.

It shat spiders. They all ended up in the bugspray puddle.
The ordeal left them all dead and left me only seriously fucked up. |

I have no problem pounding spiders with my bare hand.
But ROACHES---even using a golf club puts me too close to the action. Normally, when a roach is seen, I run out of the room like my hair is on fire and hope someone else will kill it.
Yes, I react like a little girl; and recriminations won't change that. |
